Doctor Who Season 8 Premiere Date Set, New Teaser Trailer Arrives image
The biggest of the big news regarding the upcoming eighth season of Doctor Who has just been announced by BBC America. On Friday, the cable station announced via a brand new and brief but dramatic trailer that Doctor Who will be returning to the schedule for Season 8 on Saturday, August 23 at 8 p.m. ET. Additionally, the network released some information about the premiere episode, which will be titled “Deep Breath.” You can watch the teaser below...

A new season of Doctor Who is always a reason to celebrate, but there is even more buzz surrounding this summer’s premiere, as it marks the rise of a new Doctor, this time played by actor Peter Capaldi. The new actor’s appearance has been a long time coming. More than a year ago, Matt Smith announced he would be leaving the series to pursue other projects. For some time, the rumor mill was awash with potential replacements for the Eleventh Time Lord. A few different names were bandied about before the series settled on hiring Peter Capaldi. Thus, number Twelve was born.

The BBC knows a hit when it has one, and in the months since the initial announcement was made, the network has been great about teasing the new Doctor via footage and photos. The exit of the Eleventh Doctor teased the arrival of the Twelfth Doctor in the Christmas special. Then, the company released the first official image of Capaldi’s character, which is noticeably missing any bowties, bells or whistles.

Going into Season 8, we also know that Clara (Jenna Coleman) will be returning as a Companion, and that Samuel Anderson has joined the cast, playing an acquaintance of Claras. Additionally, Ben Miller, Keeley Hawes and Da Vinci’s Demons lead Tom Riley have all signed on in guest roles. Finally, last month fans were lucky enough to get this teaser, which ties in with the official premiere announcement above.

While the BBC and BBC America have done a handy job of tiding fans over before the big Season 8 premiere, I think we can all agree that it is great news we will actually be getting new episodes sooner rather than later. Now, just keep your fingers crossed that an official Season 8 trailer is on its way soon.
