New Game Of Thrones Season 6 Trailer Is Violent and Insane

One of the worst times for an avid TV viewer is the point at which their favorite show is away. While cable series may take the summer off, premium networks like HBO and Showtime will often take a full year before releasing a new season. This is the cast with the epic megahit Game of Thrones which captivates us all summer before making us wait a year for more adventures. Luckily for us, that wait is coming to an end as Season 6 of Game of Thrones is about a month away.

HBO must feel our anticipation, as they’ve released a new trailer with a ton of brand spankin’ new footage today. Check it out below.

Is it April yet?! Seriously, Season 6 looks like absolute chaos and I couldn’t be more excited to make my way back to Westeros for all of the violence, sex, and manipulation. Does that make me crazy?

With so many characters and plotlines happening in Game of Thrones, it’s hard to pick out the specific moments of the trailer which leaves the audience with goosebumps. But let’s try anyway.

theon

Brienne of Tarth and Theon Greyjoy look like they’re about to come to blows. This is, without a doubt, the moment of the trailer that made me the most excited. Brienne’s attempts to save the Stark girls has been one of the most frustrating aspects of Game thus far. Despite being the best bet for safety, Arya and Sansa both rejected her offer at one point or another. During Season 5’s finale, Sansa lit her candle for help, but unfortunately Brienne didn’t notice due to Stannis’ troops and their impending battle with the Boltons. Although she went and took Stannis out, Brienne missed her opportunity to save Sansa. Luckily Theon saved the day when the two mysteriously lept from the castle.

While this trailer makes it seem like Brienne is about to behead Theon, I think this is a case of misdirection by the editors. In the shot of Theon we see what appears to be a Bolton soldier, so most likely Brienne will be saving Theon and Sansa from the Boltons and escorting them to safety.

aryaisblind

Arya is still looking blind, but it doesn’t seem to stop her from her adventures. With her blindness being one of the bigger cliffhangers from last season’s finale, it appeared that she would be unable to continue taking out the people on her kill list. However, we’re given a bunch of shots of the youngest Stark girl in this trailer, and it appears that she still has some ass kicking to do, even without the use of her eyes. It is worth noting that she recently appeared on the cover of EW without the white eyes, so she should be getting her sight back eventually.

Other than that, it looks like a ton of battles are ahead for Season 6. We’ve got mounted forces charging forward, an epic sword battle between unknown characters, as well as Brienne’s Valyrian steel taking some more lives.

Game of Thrones fans love the fight scenes, and it appears we’ll be getting just that in Season 6. As always, it’s a mystery as to which of the main characters will be meeting their demise in the upcoming season, although Jaqen H’ghar makes it clear in his narration that all of the faces we know will one day grace the walls of Braavos.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO beginning on April 24 at 9 p.m. ET.
