Travel The World With Glenn Close

I know about Earth Day, but who’s ever heard about World Environment Day? Everyone only gets one birthday, mothers only get one day of celebration even Santa Claus gets just one day. Why should the earth get two? Okay, maybe the care of our planet is a little more important than having cake and getting gifts. To coincide with World Environment Day, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Home on DVD and Blu-ray June 5th.

Glenn Close narrates the film consisting of all aerial footage from 54 countries and 120 locations shot over 217 days. Director Yann Arthus-Betrand aims to help people understand the impact mankind has on the environment by showing audiences the beauty of our planet as well as the elements we’ve damaged and must work to restore.

Fox calls the release of Home a major event because it marks the first time a film will be released on all formats simultaneously. It might make for a very exciting day to have a film hit theaters, DVD, Blu-ray, the Internet and theaters all at once, but wouldn’t that only take away for the success of each format individually? I’m either going to buy the film on DVD or see it in theaters; not both. Come to think of it, why would I buy the DVD for $19.98 or the BD for $29.99 when I could see it in theaters for a cheaper price? Actually, maybe I’ll just tune in at 9:00pm ET/PT when Home is broadcast on the National Geographic Channel and not pay a penny. (Well, expect for you cable bill.)

The more noteworthy aspect of this film is that it’s carbon offset. The CO2 emissions created by the production of this film are offset by the money put into giving clean energy to those who don’t have any.
