Heavy Rain was one of the first of the narrative, player choice video games to come to PlayStation in early 2010, and though it didn't get as much attention as Beyond: Two Souls, it stood out from other games. It was an emotional experience. And now, Sony is finally bringing Heavy Rain to the PS4 next month—but only in its digital form.
And here’s why that sucks. Everywhere else outside of North America is getting both a physical release for the PS4 and a bundle that includes Quantic Dream’s other masterpiece, Beyond: Two Souls. So, North America appears to have gotten the short stick. But maybe it isn’t final; maybe somewhere along the lines we’ll get a physical copy of Heavy Rain along with the awesome PS4 bundle.
Heavy Rain tells the story of the Origami Killer, one who used rainfall to kill his victims. Just like in Beyond: Two Souls, the player’s actions and decisions affect the turnout of the narrative. The game has four playable characters rather than just centering around one main character and include Ethan Mars, Scott Shelby, Norman Jayden, Madison Paige and Lauren Winter. Each character has their own backstory which greatly helps develop the character and their relation to the Origami Killer. You can check out a trailer for the game below.
As much as I go on and on about narrative video games like Beyond: Two Souls and Life Is Strange, I can honestly say I’ve never played Heavy Rain. I’ve been told by several people that I need to play it, but after trading in my PS3 a long time ago to get a PS4, it hasn’t been an option for me. Now that it’s finally releasing on to PS4, maybe now I will get my chance.
The digital PS4 copy of Heavy Rain will be releasing on March 4 on the PlayStation Store.
