BlizzCon 2014 Listed On Blizzard's Website

Blizzard might announce the next BlizzCon very soon. Gamers have noticed that BlizzCon 2014 is now mentioned on the company's official website.

BlizzCon is a celebration of all of Blizzard's major franchises. The convention typically features panel discussions with developers, demo kiosks for upcoming games, and fan competitions. Blizzard often makes a major announcement or two during the event as well. For example, last year they announced Warlords of Draenor, the fifth expansion pack for World of Warcraft.

The convention is traditionally held at the Anaheim Convention Center during the fall. In recent years, Blizzard has also offered a "Virtual Ticket." This allows gamers to watch streaming footage from the event on DirecTV or computers.

The terms and conditions for the BlizzCon Virtual Ticket were updated recently to list "BlizzCon 2014" for the header. This seems to suggest that Blizzard's web team is revising the site in preparation for an announcement. The body of the document still mentions BlizzCon 2013, however, so that leaves open the possibility that the header was just an error.

There's a good chance Blizzard will hold a BlizzCon in 2014. The convention's been held on a near-annual basis since 2005. The only years that Blizzard skipped were 2006 and 2012. In the latter case, the company was too busy finishing Diablo 3, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria and StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm.

They're still busy, of course. Their current workload includes Heroes of the Storm, the mobile versions of Hearthstone, Warlords of Draenor, StarCraft 2's next expansion Legacy of the Void and their unannounced MMO "Titan." Still, 2012 was a different situation because they hadn't shipped any games in the prior year and were under pressure to finish Diablo 3 after over a decade's worth of development. Blizzard has already launched one game in 2013 - Hearthstone on PC and Mac - and just started the alpha testing for Heroes. As long as they're making good progress on their other projects, it seems probable that they'll find the time for BlizzCon 2014.

If they do hold BlizzCon 2014, there are plenty of potential announcements they could make. Legacy of the Void hasn't been officially announced yet so perhaps they'll reveal the project with a teaser trailer. Or maybe they'll launch the beta for Heroes of the Storm and give out keys to attendees. There's also the slim chance that Blizzard will start giving more details on "Titan."

MMO Champion notes that previous BlizzCons were announced in either February or March. We could find out the details on BlizzCon 2014 very soon, then.
