Five new screenshots from co-op zombie shooter Dead Island Riptide hit the Internet tonight. In the images, the survivors deal with the emotional trauma of a zombie apocalypse in the only way they know how: killing infected by the truckload.
Dead Island: Riptide is a direct sequel to Dead Island. The four survivors of the previous game escaped the infected island of Banoi, only to end up at another tropical paradise stricken by the virus. The quartet, along with new playable character John Morgan, will travel through the towns and wilderness of Palanai in their search for safety.
The new screenshots gloss over one important detail about Palanai: it was just hit by a monsoon. Many areas of the island are flooded. This will not only make travel difficult, but also result in the occasional ambush by submerged zombies.
Riptide is a full game but won't actually cost full price. Instead, Deep Silver plans to sell it for $50 at launch. They reduced the price due to the fact that 2013 is the "end of a console cycle." I suspect that very few companies have that same attitude.
The game is available for pre-order on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Reserving a copy will earn you a sexy SteelBook case.
