The dungeon-crawler Legend of Grimrock will be getting a sequel, developer Almost Human announced this week. Legend of Grimrock 2 is in development for an unknown release date.
Grimrock is inspired by old-school, first-person RPG's like Dungeon Master and Ultima Underworld. Players control a party of characters traveling through a dungeon. They must defeat a variety of beasts and also solve puzzles. Completing the tasks will allow characters to earn new abilities and equipment, respectively.
The game debuted on PC last April. Since then, it's been ported to Mac and Linux. An iOS version is also in the works. Over 600,000 copies have been sold in total, making a sequel seem like a foregone conclusion.
Almost Human said in a blog post that they originally planned to make an expansion pack to the game. However, they realized that their ambitions are much larger than that.
"Simply put, a DLC would have limited too much what we can do. With a full blown sequel we can raise Grimrock to the next level."
The developers say that they've created a lot of new content for the sequel already. They're also plotting an update for Grimrock's engine
The team plans to start releasing regular development updates through their blog. New details on Grimrock 2 will be meted out over time in those updates.
