Alicia Keys Singing For Bond?

For a while there it looked as if the theme song for the next James Bond movie would fit with the series' latest attempt at seeming "with it" and "hip." Amy Winehouse, the singer as well-known for her drug struggles and arrests as for her music, was set to record the song, and seemed a great fit. With her old-school sounding voice, she could hearken back to the series' 60s roots while sounding totally modern.

But then Winehouse's drug problems went from bad to worse, and now she's off the project. Well, probably. Nothing is official, and now even more unofficially, E! is reporting that Alicia Keys may be replacing Winehouse as the chief songstress for Quantum of Solace ."A source" told the site "I believe Alicia is the winner," referring to the horde of artists who have angled to take Winehouse's place. I mean, it's probably a pretty easy audition process. "I promise not to attack paparazzi! I promise not to let my drug use interfere with my work!"

Keys, while a fine singer, is kind of a disappointing choice for a movie that is aiming to prove it won't just appeal to your dad who watches the Bond marathon every Thanksgiving. Even Leona Lewis, the British singer who was also reportedly in the running for the gig, has more contemporary appeal. But Keys will probably do just fine, and definitely won't be a legal liability. Hey nothing could be worse than Madonna's "Die Another Day" song, right?
