Cheadle Goes To The Dogs

A movie that didn’t sound so good suddenly sounds a lot better. Don Cheadle has joined the cast of Hotel for Dogs, according to Variety. The only other person announced is Nancy Drew star and famous niece Emma Roberts.

The movie is based on a 1971 children’s book called, you guessed it, “Hotel for Dogs” by Lois Duncan. I was a child in 1971, but this book escaped my notice and turning it into a movie 36 years later is a little head-scratching. The story involves two teenagers who take care of stray dogs living in an abandoned hotel, a hotel for dogs if you will. Cheadle will play a social worker.

Thor Freudenthal who has directed some short films will make his feature debut putting Cheadle, Roberts, and a bunch of dogs through their paces. Jeff Lowell adapted Duncan’s book. It has to turn out better than John Tucker Must Die, his previous effort. Here’s hoping that Cheadle won’t go all Cuba Jr. on us and this movie will be so much the better for his involvement.
