Chris Pine Set To Be An Awful Employer In Horrible Bosses 2
He probably won't get to have Christoph Waltz play his father, but that doesn't mean that Chris Pine isn't ready to become a Horrible Boss. Last week we reported that both the Star Trek star and the Austrian Oscar-winner were up for roles in the upcoming comedy sequel Horrible Bosses 2, and while it doesn't look like the latter is going to be a part of the project, Variety says that Pine has signed on the dotted line and is now set to play one of the new movie's central antagonists.
Set to be directed by Sean Anders (That's My Boy) , the film is actually already in production, but doesn't yet have an official release date. Charlie Day, Jason Bateman and Jason Sudeikis are set to return as best friends Dale, Nick and Kurt, and while it's largely unclear what kind of shenanigans they will be getting up to this time around, Variety says that it will involve an invention of some kind. As was previously reported, Pine will be playing the son half of a father-son duo that wind up stealing the trio's idea. The first film also featured a father son pairing - bringing together a kind, nice Donald Sutherland and an asshole, coke-addicted Colin Farrell - but this time around both characters will be on the antagonist side of things.
Pine most recently starred in one of the biggest event films of this past summer, returning to his role as Captain James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, but his year isn't through yet. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, in which the young actor plays Tom Clancy's most famous hero, will be out this December and will have him co-starring with Kevin Costner, Kenneth Branagh (who is also directing), and Kiera Knightley. The first trailer for the movie arrived online earlier this month, and you can watch it below:
Beyond 2013, Pine recently completed work on Joe Carnahan's action/thriller/comedy Stretch, which pairs him with Patrick Wilson for the limo ride from hell, and he is currently in production on the musical adaptation of Into The Woods, in which he will play Cinderella's Prince. He is also set to star in director Craig Zobel's adaptation of the sci-fi novel Z For Zacharia, which also has Amanda Seyfried attached.
With cameras already rolling we can expect some more casting news from Horrible Bosses 2 very soon - particularly because they still have to find an actor to play Pine's father. It will definitely be a challenge to find someone as talented as Waltz, but here's hoping they succeed.
