First Look At Henry Cavill In Costume As Superman

With production finally ready to start on Zack Snyder's new Superman movie Man of Steel, Warner Bros. has sent out a press release confirming all the primary cast that have already been announced, and most excitingly, giving our first look at Henry Cavill in costume as the boy from Krypton. The shot seems to be taken from the middle of an action scene, but given that production hasn't yet begun it's likely staged for the sake of the photo op, and might not represent anything we'll see in the movie. Still, get a gander at that costume (click on it to see it bigger) below.

There's never been any denying that Cavill looked the part of Superman to a T, and you can see it in action in the costume-- he seems to have been born to wear a cape. I'm not really sure what to make of the costume's material, though, which seems to be some kind of sticky, shiny plastic more suited to Spider-Man's hand grips or something like that. See how it wrinkles around his left wrist? That seems neither comfortable nor all that functional. It looks great from a distance, and should allow Cavill to move pretty much however he wants to, and maybe that's the point. But even his red boots and the "S" on his chest seem to be made out of the same material. Is there a functionality here that I'm just missing?

Man of Steel, as you probably already know, is set for release June 14, 2013. With production starting soon, let the flood of leaked set photos of speculation begin!
