How Much Batman V Superman Could Make In Its Opening Weekend

The upcoming release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will earn Warner Bros. money. A lot of money. Like, Bruce Wayne levels of money. With Batman and Superman set to meet for the first time on the silver screen, it’s a safe bet that audiences will flock to theaters to bare witness. However, new estimates have come out indicating just how much money Batman V Superman could open to when it hits theaters on March 25.

According to a new report from THR, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice could very well open to at least $140 million in North America alone. That’s an astronomical figure, and although some WB insiders have allegedly low-balled the movie’s debut closer to $110 million, it’s still an impressive number to say the least. Of course, we still have to put these figures into perspective; Dawn of Justice cost nearly $250 million to make, so to turn a profit it needs to absolutely decimate the box office during its theatrical run.

With such high estimates, many have begun to wonder whether or not Batman V Superman can live up to the $150 million opening of Deadpool last month. On one hand, Batman V Superman lacks the edginess and buzz of Wade Wilson's recent adventure. However, the broad appeal of a PG-13 rating, and the brand recognition of Batman V Superman’s titular characters afford it the opportunity to potentially dominate its opening weekend and shatter records.

Warner Bros. seems to know exactly how much is at stake with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Lackluster financial success could effectively derail the DCEU before it even gets a chance to really get off the ground. As a result they have managed to secure a coveted release schedule for the film, allowing Batman V Superman to simultaneously hit theaters in every major market – rather than delaying the release in foreign markets such as China. This decision will help the film twofold: it aids in the prevention of piracy, as well as the influence of negative buzz to deter people from seeing the superhero smackdown.

All that being said – negative buzz or positive buzz – as a self-respecting Batman geek I will most certainly be seeing Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice solely because of this recent trailer:

Based on these estimates it seems like Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will most certainly win at the box office during its opening weekend. Now we’re just left wondering which of the DC titans will come out on top of their iconic showdown; place your bets, mark your calendars, and be sure to check out the film when it finally hits theaters later this month on March 25.
