While Transformers: The Last Knight’s main lineup of robots in disguise right now only officially consists of Optimus Prime and Megatron/Galvatron, the movie’s cast of real people has been slowly growing over the last month. As with any production, the actors are all human, but director Michael Bay just revealed that there will also be someone showing up in the fifth Transformers entry from the canine family. Those of you who live across the pond might know her as Freya, a.k.a. “Britain’s loneliest dog.”
While perusing the United Kingdom's news from last week, Bay came across this headline from The Mirror about Freya, who has been rejected literally tens of thousands of times for adoption over the last six years.
Freya, a Staffordshire bull terrier, has epilepsy and has lived her whole life in a shelter. Now aware of her situation, Michael Bay went on his Twitter account to raise awareness and try to finer her a new home.
However, that wasn’t all he did for Freya. Not only did he promise to let Freya stay at his house if they can’t find her a permanent residence elsewhere, he also cast her in Transformers: The Last Knight, which is beginning production this summer and has already shot a few scenes in Cuba.
Michael Bay didn’t go into detail about how Freya will be included in Transformers: The Last Knight, though logically we can assume she’ll live with one of the families featured in the story or at least cross paths with one of the main characters. Either way, she’s about to be a movie star! As for Freya’s home situation, Bay already owns two bullmastiffs named Bonecrusher and Grace, so if he isn’t able to find her another person or family to live with (and with all this publicity, I doubt that will be the case), she’ll be the third member of his canine ensemble. While Bay has been dealing with some controversy lately, this is definitely a noble and heartwarming decision on his part.
The dog isn't the only newcomer to the Transformers universe! Michael Bay just added an Oscar winner to the cast, and we think you'll be pretty shocked by this reveal!
Only a day after this Freya news came out, the official Transformers Twitter account announced that acting legend Anthony Hopkins has joined the fifth movie’s cast.
Although it wasn’t technically confirmed, it’s a good bet that Anthony Hopkins is playing a human as opposed to a Transformer. You don’t hire the Silence of the Lambs star for a big blockbuster like this and only have him record some lines for a few hours. They need to make full use of his talents! Hopkins’ costars on the movie include Mark Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, Jerrod Carmichael and Josh Duhamel.
Transformers: The Last Knight arrives in theaters on June 23, 2017.
