Is Another Avenger Being Quietly Added To Spider-Man: Homecoming? Rumors Are Swirling
With the next couple entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe focusing on different aspects of the world, Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the next film that will likely give us some information about the state of the Avengers. As such, it appears we may get to see even more of them than we thought. We knew that at least one of the Avengers would be seen in the new Spider-Man film, but now it appears that we may see another. Rumors state that Scarlett Johansson has been seen in Atlanta, where Homecoming is currently filming.
It was announced well in advance that Robert Downey Jr. would be part of the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, something that made at least a decent amount of sense considering the connection that the two heroes made in Captain America: Civil War. However, ComicBook.com is now reporting that Scarlett Johansson has been seen in Atlanta, Georgia, the home of Pinewood Studios where Homecoming is shooting right now.
It's certainly possible that this could mean the actress is in town to film scenes for the movie. Of course, it could also mean a number of other things as well. While it seems to be confirmed that Scarlett Johansson is in town, which has also been confirmed by a local Twitter account focused on the Atlanta movie industry, we have no visual evidence that Johansson has been to Pinewood Studios. Even if we did, it's certainly clear that nobody has seen her in costume, which would be the ultimate indication that she was filming there. It's possible she's just swinging by to see her friends.
If Black Widow will make an appearance, either in a major role or even a brief cameo, it does raise some interesting questions about how that could work and what that might mean for Spider-Man: Homecoming. While the end of Captain America: Civil War left all of our heroes split up and in various places on the map, Black Widow may actually be the most curious of the group. She's not part of the group that Captain America breaks out of jail, but she's also not one of the people left with Iron Man back at Avengers HQ. She's apparently gone off entirely on her own. While Black Widow was technically on Team Iron Man during Civil War, she was never quite as committed to it as her teammates. At this point, we don't really know what the character is feeling in the aftermath, so getting to spend even some brief time with her in Homecoming would likely tell us a lot about where her head is at in the current situation.
