Which Rock Star James Gunn Would Like To Add To The Guardians Of The Galaxy World

If there was ever a short list of Rock and Roll icons that seem like a shoo-in for entry into the world of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Aerosmith front-man Steven Tyler would be on the short list in a heartbeat. We never thought such a pairing could come true, but leave it to James Gunn to tease the possibility, as he'd be more than happy to dream on with the rest of us.

Steven Tyler

During a live Q&A on his Facebook account, Gunn took the time to respond to recent remarks Steven Tyler had made in reference to his wishes to be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Just as you'd suspect, James Gunn is totally on board with the idea, as he's a big fan of the singer. The full response to Tyler's initial remarks was the following:

Yes, I did hear that Steven Tyler wants to be in Guardians of the Galaxy. He gave me a shout-out the other day in an interview. He said, 'James Gunn are you listening?' The answer is: Steven, yes I am listening. And I'm a big fan of Steven Tyler's. I would have the pleasure of directing his daughter Liv in [Super], in which she was fantastic, and I met him for a few seconds at a screening of that movie. He's a cool guy. And, of course I would love to work with Steven Tyler sometime.

Apparently, everybody wants to work with James Gunn, as Steven Tyler joins the ranks of folks like Al Pacino who have expressed interest in becoming a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy family. It should come as no surprise, as the first Guardians film had the right blend of standard Hollywood thrills, with just the right amount of off-beat humor and distinction. So not only does Guardians promise a fun work environment with one of the most unique directors of our time, it also almost guarantees that you'll be doing something no other film would require you to do.

As far as characters would go, it's hard to pin down one role from the pre-existing Marvel Comics canon for Steven Tyler to play. However, thinking back to 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, it'd be kind of cool if Benicio Del Toro's character of The Collector had an equally eccentric brother or foe in his life, to keep things interesting. Try telling us that Del Toro's crazy wouldn't work exceedingly well with Tyler's brand of eccentricity. If you're interested, you can see the full Q&A video with James Gunn below:

We certainly hope that if James Gunn gets to direct whatever Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is eventually named, and that Steven Tyler gets to join him for the ride. Even if it's just a simple five second cameo, getting the Aerosmith front man on screen would be a meeting of the minds that's too good to pass up. Though if you're a hardcore Tyler fan who wants to see him in action on the big screen a lot sooner, you can see him in the horror film Happy Birthday, which is supposed to be released some time before the end of this year. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theaters on May 5, 2017.
