Although 2016 may have had its share of ups and downs, last year did provide us with a glorious gift in the form of Ryan Reynolds' raunchy R-rated superhero romp Deadpool. The fourth-wall-breaking action comedy adventure proved superhero movies could succeed with an R rating, while also challenging the different types of movies the genre could produce. Since the glorious release of Deadpool, anticipation for the upcoming sequel has been at a fever pitch, despite some major changes happening behind the scenes. The biggest question regarding Deadpool 2 is the casting of Cable, and Ryan Reynolds recently posted a picture to Instagram which enticed the rumor mill.
Ryan Reynolds is usually pretty active with his various social media accounts, making his many fans laugh with his snarky voice and sense of humor. He just posted a photo with Hugh Jackman and James Bond himself Pierce Brosnan, and the internet basically exploded. Is Brosnan playing Cable? Check out the image and see for yourself.
While Ryan Reynolds' post doesn't actually mention Deadpool 2 or Cable at all, it surely hasn't stopped his fans from debating any and all possibilities in the comment section. With Pierce Brosnan sandwiched between two X-Men movie legends, it seems to tease that the former James Bond actor could show up in the franchise at some point. But celebrities meet and interact all the time, so it's also a possibility that Ryan Reynolds simply wanted a cool picture with James Bond (and I can't say I blame him).
The mysterious casting of Cable in Deadpool 2 has been one of the most discussed aspects of the upcoming sequel. Since Deadpool's post-credits scene first announced Cable's inclusion in the second movie, the internet as been aflutter with casting rumors. Starting with Keira Knightley (she has range), it seems like every name imaginable has been thrown into the hat for Cable. Let's break down some of the possibilities.
The actor who has gained the most attention for possibly playing Cable in Deadpool 2 is Friday Night Lights actor Kyle Chandler. Chandler was rumored to be playing Cable months ago, and this casting actually may have contributed to director Tim Miller leaving the sequel. Creative differences were cited for Miller's departure from Deadpool 2, and some outlets maintained that the possible casting of Kyle Chandler was one of the main points of contention between Miller and star/producer Ryan Reynolds.
Also thrown into the mix is Avatar actor Stephen Lang, who has been consistently campaigning for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2. Lang certainly looks the part, so it would be a fairly accurate casting for the source material. Hellboy actor Ron Perlman has also expressed his interest in playing the time traveling mutant; he has experience playing comic book heroes, so Perlman would be another great fit.
Alas, we'll just have to wait and see who gets the role of Cable in Deadpool 2. While Pierce Brosnan may be the newest name thrown into the ring, it surely won't be the last.
