When The Next Mummy Trailer May Premiere

Princess Ahmanet in The Mummy

The time of watching Brendan Frasier and company take on various Mummy threats in the early 20th century has long since concluded. This summer, Universal is rebooting The Mummy franchise with a contemporary tale starring Sofia Boutella as the eponymous creature and Tom Cruise as the main human protagonist. Moviegoers received their first look at the reboot in early December (which was followed a few weeks later by an accidentally broken version of that same trailer), and now there's word that a new trailer for the monster flick could arrive as soon as this upcoming Sunday.

The folks over at Trailer-Track have noted that a new trailer for The Mummy has been classified, meaning it will at least arrive in the next few weeks. However, it's also suggested that the trailer might be attached to The Walking Dead finale on Sunday. That hasn't been confirmed yet, but it would certainly make sense. Not only is The Walking Dead a fellow entry in the horror genre, but The Mummy's December teaser trailer was also attached to an episode of the popular AMC series. If the new Mummy trailer is indeed attached to Sunday's Walking Dead episode, just like before, we can presume it will air in the latter half of the episode, followed by the online version being posted a few minutes later.

While the Brendan Frasier Mummy series took on a swashbuckling tone, the Mummy reboot will blend the frantic action present in many a Tom Cruise movie with horror harkening back to the original Mummy movies from Universal's classic Monsters series. Most of December's teaser trailer focused on a military transport containing Cruise's character, Nick Morton, and his colleagues as it crashed thanks the Mummy herself working some weird magic from within her sarcophagus on a group of birds, while the last 30 seconds provided snippets of action scenes accompanied by dialogue from Russell Crowe's Dr. Henry Jekyll. Since The Mummy is only three months away from release, ideally this new trailer will provide more specific plot details so that viewers can better gauge whether this is something that will interest them or not.

The latest cinematic Mummy will be Princess Ahmanet, who had "her destiny" taken from her thousands of years ago, so when she awakens from her mystical slumber in the present day, she will unleash the vengeance that's been building for so long upon humanity. Along with the actors mentioned earlier, The Mummy's cast includes Annabelle Wallis as Jenny Hasley, Jake Johnson as Sergeant Vail and Courtney B. Vance as Colonel Gideon Forster. The Mummy also marks the launch of the Universal Monsters cinematic universe, which will continue in the coming years with new versions of The Invisible Man, Wolf Man, Van Helsing and more.

The Mummy will be released in theaters on June 9. Make sure to check out our 2017 movie guide to find out when this year's other big blockbusters are arriving.
