A few days ago, actor Nathan Fillion seriously puzzled fans with an image posted to his personal social media accounts. The picture featured the actor wearing a very strange get-up while piloting Star-Lord's ship, the Milano, and the message suggested that it was from a deleted scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It's now been confirmed by director James Gunn that Fillion did indeed have a scene cut from the upcoming Marvel film, but that the shot Fillion posted wasn't a part of it:
So if you were hoping that you'd eventually get to see that very strange scene on the Blu-ray of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, I'm sorry to disappoint you. That being said, James Gunn followed that Tweet with another, officially confirming what Nathan Fillion's role in the new blockbuster was going to be - and it's very possible we will wind up seeing that on a future home video release:
For those who aren't familiar with Simon Williams, he was a character created by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby, and was originally introduced as a villain named Wonder Man in Avengers comics. Eventually, however, he became a hero, and made the decision to move to Hollywood and become an actor/stuntman - which is a part of the character's history that James Gunn was clearly playing around with for Nathan Fillion's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 cameo.
While Fillion didn't make the final cut of James Gunn's latest Marvel movie, it is worth noting that the actor did have a part in the writer/director's first adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Firefly and Castle star, who also previously worked with Gunn on Slither, was the blue alien that Peter Quill, Rocket, and Groot encounter the first time they are released into general population at the Kyln:
Unfortunately, we're still left with a big question: why was Nathan Fillion wearing such a bizarre wig and outfit while he was on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? Did he pose for the posters as Simon Williams wearing that get-up? If so, what the hell kind of movie was he starring in?
The Nathan Fillion-less cut of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be arriving in theaters on May 5th. For now, hit the comments below and tell us your theories on his weirdo costume.
