There's a new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer coming this evening, and while we don't know exactly what it will show us, there's at least one person who isn't sure you should watch it, the film's director. Previously, Rian Johnson has warned fans off from reading too much material regarding the upcoming film in order to avoid spoilers before the movie's release, and as much as he apparently loves the new trailer, he admits that it will contain some material that those who want to go in cold will want to avoid. Here's how Johnson responded to the question of spoilers in the trailer on Twitter...
While Rian Johnson doesn't explain his point, it's clear that the new trailer, set to premiere tonight, at halftime during the Monday Night Football game on ESPN, will include something that isn't part of what we already know about the movie. Of course, since there's a lot that we don't know, this information could quite simply be anything. It could be dialogue between characters that will explain more about what the film's plot actually is, or it could just be a couple of shots of aliens or spaceships that we've never seen before. The latter would still be considered a spoiler, but a minor one, while the former would be a pretty major reveal.
Although, even with potential spoilers incoming, Rian Johnson stops short of telling Star Wars fans to avoid the new trailer entirely as, according to his Twitter comment, it's really, really good. As if we weren't hyped up enough for a new trailer, now the director is telling us how great it is, and somehow we have to wait through most of today before we get a chance to see it.
At this point, we're guessing that whatever spoilers are contained in the new trailer are going to be minor. FIrst of all, if the spoilers were bigger, Rian Johnson would probably be less on the fence about whether or not fans should watch it. He's been pretty honest when it comes to telling people what they should avoid, and as much as Lucasfilm and Disney want people to see the new trailer, the fact is that people actively avoiding spoilers don't need to see it, they'll be buying tickets anyway. This is also the other reason there probably aren't any major reveals in the trailer. There simply don't need to be. We're all going to go see the movie anyway.
If you're not afraid of a few spoilers then be sure to come back to CinemaBlend tonight as we'll have analysis of the new trailer as soon as it drops.
