Henry Cavill Is Definitely Down To Play James Bond After Mission: Impossible Fallout

Henry Cavill has become a significant player in the world of franchise films. His role as Superman in Man of Steel catapulted him to stardom, and he will build on that even further when Mission: Impossible - Fallout debuts this weekend. However, one other franchise that Cavill has flirted with for some time is the James Bond series, and it turns out that the actor is still very interested in taking on the role, especially after everything he went through on Fallout.

Yes, a very casual James Bond reference. I would love to do it of course. I think Bond would be a really fun role. It's British, it's cool. I think that now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well.

So, Henry Cavill is by no means committed to making a Bond movie at some point, which makes sense, as Daniel Craig is currently gearing up for Danny Boyle's Bond 25. That said, he thinks it's a "fun role" and it's something that he would want to involve himself with and "amp it up" now that he has experience in a seriously stunt-heavy property like Mission: Impossible. There's a case to be made that Henry Cavill has been building to the role of James Bond for quite some time. He has been vocal about his desire to play the role at various points in time over the years, and his roles in Mission: Impossible - Fallout and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. both showcase his ability to work in the action-heavy espionage genre. If nothing else, Guy Ritchie's 2015 throwback thriller showed that the DCEU actor can rock the hell out of a dapper suit and silenced pistol.

Of course, another layer to the appeal of James Bond is that it would allow Henry Cavill to portray an English character, which is something the British-born actor hasn't had too many opportunities to do. Cavill continued in his interview with Yahoo Movies and said:

Not to say they weren't doing real stunts I'm just saying it would be fun for me to actually take what I've learnt on this and carry it through to a movie like Bond. I'd love to play a Brit. I don't get to play a Brit very often. So yes, I would love the opportunity and if they were to ask I would say "yes."

With all of that said, the talk of the next James Bond seems to still be on the backburner. Plenty of names like Tom Hardy and Idris Elba have been thrown around for years, but for the moment, our sights are simply on Daniel Craig's final turn as the character, which will hit theaters on November 8, 2019.

For now, audiences can look forward to seeing Henry Cavill in his portrayal of August Walker in Mission: Impossible - Fallout, which will debut in theaters this weekend on July 27.
