Luke Skywalker was always a pretty busy guy in the Star Wars films. From training to become a Jedi to destroying the Death Star, he hardly ever had any time to himself before going into hiding. In fact, he never really settled down or found love in the original trilogy, but that leaves us wondering if he ever had romantic entanglements before the events of The Last Jedi. When asked about this specific topic on Twitter, Luke actor Mark Hamill suggested it as a possibility and noted that there are decades of unexplored space on the Star Wars timeline to fit in that type of story. Hamill wrote:
Maybe he did between Ep. 6 & 7. Many untold stories there.
So, it's not outside the realm of possibility to imagine that Luke may have found love at some point after the defeat of The Empire. Though romance is strictly forbidden under the traditional Jedi code, it's worth noting that Luke's own training as a Jedi was very unorthodox, which means he may have decided that the celibate life wasn't for him. Beyond that, Luke did settle down and marry Mara Jade in the Expanded Universe stories, so there's precedent to pull from if the folks behind the big screen Star Wars franchise ever decide to return to that creative well to create some of those "untold stories" Mark Hamill's tweet refers to.
Of course, this leaves many to wonder what the future may hold for Star Wars movies set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. With decades separating the original trilogy and the current trilogy, there is definitely room to explore Luke Skywalker's post-Endor years -- possibly with another actor (Sebastian Stan!?) playing the role. That said, much of what we have heard about Episode IX has suggested that it will see the end of the Skywalker family saga, so a movie focusing solely on Luke's possible love life after the death of Darth Vader doesn't seem entirely likely.
Logistically speaking, any stories focusing on Luke Skywalker living a normal life would pretty much have to take place before the events of The Force Awakens anyway. Though Mark Hamill is set to return to the Star Wars franchise in Episode IX, it might not be in a human form, as he sacrificed himself to assist the Resistance' escape at the end of The Last Jedi. Couple that with the fact that Luke spent years in hiding before Rey found him on Ahch-To, and the odds of him having a love story during or after the current trilogy don't seem particularly good.
