Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Will Feature A Stan Lee Cameo

Spider-Man swinging through traffic in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

The world has said goodbye to Stan Lee, but fans who aren't quite ready for him to be gone will have a few chances over the next several months to see him again. The man who made a second career out of film cameos has several that he completed before his death, including one that will see Stan appear in animated form, as it's been now confirmed he will appear in next month's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, producers of the new animated feature, confirmed the cameo while speaking about the first time they met Lee, a man who was always full of ideas. According to Lord and Miller...

When we came in, we thought we were going to pitch him ideas, but he ended up pitching us no less than seven ideas in a 45-minute meeting. That's just the kind of guy he was --- an idea machine. He seemed to be a man to whom creation was as automatic as breathing. We were lucky to have him adorn our movie [Spider- Man: Into the Spider-Verse, opening Dec. 14] with his voice [cameo].

The fact that Stan Lee will be appearing in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn't a massive surprise. He has appeared in nearly every Marvel project of the last couple decades, regardless of whether or not the film was a Marvel production or from one of the studios that licensed the rights from the publisher. Still, it's nice to know that we'll be able to hear Stan's voice very soon. It should be quite comforting for the fans.

Funnily enough, this won't be the next time that Stan Lee will cameo in a movie. In fact, it won't even be the next time that his cameo will come in the form of animation. It's also been recently confirmed that Stan Lee will cameo in Disney's Ralph Breaks the Internet. We've seen that the movie will have a bit of fun with the fourth wall and that Disney's various brands will make appearances in the film, so Stan Lee will seemingly be part of the Marvel section of the internet that Ralph and Vanellope visit.

Previously, Stan Lee also appeared in animated form as part of a post-credits sequence in the Disney animated feature Big Hero 6.

One assumes that the cameo in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will come from a character who looks like Stan Lee, though that may not be the case. In the piece from THR Phil Lord and Chris Miller only specifically reference his voice making an appearance and not his likeness, so it's possible we could get Lee's voice from a different character. Perhaps Stan Lee will get to actually become Spider-Man in the movie. Since the film's plot deals with the multi-verse and we know that multiple "Spider-Men" will appear, wouldn't it be great for one of them to be Stan Lee?

We'll be listening to for the voice of Stan Lee, and possibly getting slightly emotional when we hear it, when Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse hits theaters December 14.
