Deadpool Was Originally Going To Urinate On Shatterstar’s Grave During Deadpool 2

After making a ton of money at the box office and becoming another critical hit, Deadpool 2 is once again set to return to theaters. Once Upon A Deadpool will be a PG-13 version of the blockbuster, with the title character narrating around the R-rated content to Fred Savage a la The Princess Bride. But there's still new information coming out about the original cut, including more gags about the ill-fated X-Force.

Deadpool 2 recently screened for the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences, including a Q&A after the movie. Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld was in the audience, and reported some of the revelations that came from the talk back. One of which was about the film's time-traveling ending, which at one point included the title character urinating on the grave of departed X-Force member Shatterstar. Talk about adding insult to injury.

Rob Liefeld's Instagram post just proves how many endless gags the Deadpool movies start with, before ultimately editing down to its final product. Plenty of material ends up on the cutting room floor, and the time traveling mid-credits scene obviously brought on a ton of challenges. Ultimately its a hilarious sequence, despite Shatterstar not being saved like Peter.

For those who don't remember, Deadpool 2's mid-credits sequence had the Merc with the Mouth use a time traveling device to go back in history, and have his way with a handful of important events. He saves the life of Vanessa, as well as X-Force member Peter, before going back in time to murder dark figures from Ryan Reynolds' career.

Some fans wondered why Wade Wilson didn't save the rest of his team, with even Shatterstar actor Lewis Tan expressing hopes to be saved via time travel, and therefore available for the X-Force movie with 20th Century Fox. While the franchise is keeping its secrets regarding the dead character's future, it's fun to know that the lesser known mutant could have been the butt of yet another joke during Deadpool 2.

Time and time again throughout Deadpool's life, it's become clear that Ryan Reynolds and his team have no shortage of bits and tangents to go on for the franchise. In addition to the various scenes that were cut from Deadpool 2, there was enough creative material to mine from that Once Upon A Deadpool was born. Instead of simply re-releasing the movie, new material was shot and cut together, almost making an entirely new movie altogether. And there are no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

It should be fascinating to see where the Deadpool franchise goes next. There's vague plans for an X-Force movie and/or Deadpool 3, and 20th Century Fox's upcoming merge with Disney brings the potential for Wade Wilson to crossover into the MCU. Only time will tell.

Once Upon A Deadpool will arrive in theaters on December 12th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your trips to the movies in the New Year.
