Another Back To The Future Movie? Here's What Robert Zemeckis Now Says

Back To The Future Part IV?

If you are a Back To The Future fan, you may already know that Robert Zemeckis has not been pushing another sequel in the popular franchise. However, recently Back To The Future won a poll topping other films people want to see more of. So, has Robert Zemeckis changed his mind about a fourth film? Here's what he said:

I think what the poll is saying... they asked a specific question, so I guess they felt it was important to spend money to poll the world, and ask this question, but don't you think we could all have just given them the same answer? It confirms what we all know, but what I think the fans are really saying is that we really like this movie and if it were possible I'd like more of it. But they understand that it can't be done.

Yahoo caught up with Robert Zemeckis ahead of his new film Welcome to Marwen and asked the director whether or not he was still "adamantly against" another movie, to which he responded "Oh god yes." He then extrapolated out about the poll in question, explaining what he thought fans meant when many said they would like to see another Back To The Future franchise film.

Even though the fans really did say they would be happy to see more from Doc Brown, Marty McFly and more, it's unlikely to ever happen. We can't just hang it all on Robert Zemeckis' lack of want either. Previously, producer Frank Marshall has said he's out on a reboot, noting,

Yeah [we won't reboot Back To The Future], as long as I have my say. No, that one exists just like E.T. -- we're never touching those. I love watching it.

In addition, both Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale wrote into their contracts that they would have a say in any Back to the Future franchise movie made during their lifetimes. So, given their word on the matter I would count it out -- even if a remake or sequel would be a success.

And it sounds like it would be. The THR poll conducted earlier this year looked at popular series and asked questions about remakes and sequels, finding that 41% of people were "very likely" to watch a new Back to the Future franchise flick. An additional 30% said they were "somewhat likely" to watch.

These numbers were higher than other franchises listed, including the Chronicles of Narnia movies, The Die Hard movies and even the Avatar franchise---a franchise we actually know has more movies in the works.

So, if you are one of the people who would like to see what happened after the events in Back To The Future Part III, alas, you may have to use your imagination or go to fanfiction for help.

In the meantime, you can take a look at what Robert Zemeckis has been up to with Welcome to Marwen, which comes complete with a Back to the Future reference, in theaters now.
