Black Panther’s Lupita Nyong’o Pens Loving Tribute To Chadwick Boseman On One-Year Anniversary Of His Death

T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o) talk in Black Panther (2018)

Last year, Hollywood was struck with a number of losses due to the deaths of many celebrated stars. One death that really seemed to have hit the public hard is that of Chadwick Boseman. The beloved actor passed away last August at the age of 44 following a private, years-long battle with colon cancer. Today marks the one-year anniversary of his death and many fans are making the time to pay tribute to Boseman. This includes his Black Panther co-star Lupita Nyong’o.

In Black Panther, Lupita Nyong'o played Nakia, a Wakandan spy and the love interest of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa. The two actors seem to have spent a lot of time together on the set as well as off as they promoted the film. With this, they became incredibly close, and this is crystal clear in the sweet Twitter post Nyong’o recently shared. Check it out down below:

Lupita Nyong’o’s post perfectly encapsulates the loving and playful relationship she shared with the late, great Chadwick Boseman. The on-screen chemistry between the two was impeccable and, when seeing a photo like this, it’s not hard to understand why. But what’s incredibly great to see is that the actress’ message is not one of sorrow but of joy in having been able to know Boseman.

Chadwick Boseman’s death was immediately followed by a massive outpouring of love from fans and many across Holywood. This included Boseman’s Black Panther co-stars and director as well as veteran actors like Denzel Washington (an early benefactor of Boseman’s) and Star Wars alum Billy Dee Williams. Disney also paid tribute to the T’Challa actor through a sweet addition to the Disneyland resort.

Late last year, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that the company would not recast the role of T’Challa in the wake of Chadwick Boseman’s passing. Instead, the franchise will continue to expand on the world of Wakanda and its collection of characters through the upcoming sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Specific plot details on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (which is currently filming) are being kept close to the vest and, with T’Challa not being recast, many fans have questions about how things will continue. We do, however, know that aside from bringing back fan-favorite characters, the Ryan Coogler-directed sequel will also introduce a new hero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The franchise admittedly won’t be the same without Chadwick Boseman, and even Lupita Nyong’o has been candid about how “hard” it is to move forward without the late star. However, she’s still spoken highly of the upcoming sequel and seems excited about what’s to come. She’s also expressed her belief that it serves as a fitting tribute to Boseman and his character. Considering the cast and crew’s immense love for the performer, this is sure to be the case.

As we mark the first anniversary of Chadwick Boseman’s death, we here at CinemaBlend wish his wife, family and loved ones the best during this time.
