Welcome to the eighteenth edition of The Cord Cutter Podcast! Well, after over a year of waiting, it's almost finally time for the second season of the Netflix hit Stranger Things. This week, your hosts Mick and Adrienne will be joined, again, by CinemaBlend Deputy TV Editor Laura Hurley, to recap Season 1 and go over all our hopes for Season 2. As any card carrying TV fan knows by now, Stranger Things was one of the few unqualified hits of all the new shows that popped up on television in 2016.
After hitting Netflix in July, the series quickly made waves as it struck several chords with viewers, leading to it becoming one of the most talked about shows of last year. And, really, what's not to love? There was a faceless monster that basically had a giant mouth for a head, kids in danger, a scary as hell alternate dimension filled with weird floating spores and slugs that take over human bodies, a little girl with superpowers and parents who had no idea what their children were really up to 90% of the time. Clearly, Stranger Things was the show to beat.
In case you've been out of the loop since last summer, Stranger Things took place in the early 1980s and focused on the disappearance of Will Byers and the people who were trying to find him. The sci-fi show had a lot of love for the decade in which the show was set, and it had clear influences in the works of Steven Spielberg and Stephen King, which, as you might imagine, many people absolutely went bonkers for. On today's episode, we'll talk about the high and low points of Season 1, as well as detail what lingering questions we hope get answered in the new season and everything else we're looking forward to from Stranger Things this year.
