Travis Barker has talked a lot over the years about the 2008 plane crash that killed four people and left the Blink 182 drummer with burns on 65 percent of his body. The new documentary Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear hit the 2026 movie calendar, and in it Barker recalls heartbreaking details of the tragedy, including a warning his young daughter gave him at the time that absolutely gave me chills.
Louder Than Fear dives into the life of Travis Barker, including his upbringing, his career as one of the most famous drummers in history, and his marriage into the Kardashian-Jenner family. But you can’t tell his story without talking about the plane crash he survived September 19, 2008. I’d heard the story before, but Barker included one new detail that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about. The drummer says in the doc:
Before I left, my daughter, Alabama, was hysterically crying and just saying, like, ‘The roof is on fire, and it’s gonna come off.' And it was just the weirdest thing, and she was hysterically crying. She cried for, like, two hours straight after I had left.
By my math, Alabama Barker would have only been 2 at the time of her dad’s plane crash, so that makes her warning especially bizarre. The fact that she was apparently upset to that level — which Travis Barker said was unusual for her — makes it really creepy considering what happened.
In Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear, the drummer said he heard what sounded like gunshots when the plane tried to take off, which he said was the landing gear blowing up. He said the plane caught fire as it skid on its belly, attempting to lift into the air before falling back down and hitting an embankment.
Travis Barker was able to grab Adam Goldstein, aka “DJ AM,” and help him out of the plane before it exploded. Barker’s assistant Chris Baker, his security guard Charles “Che” Still, pilot Sarah Lemmon and first officer James Bland were killed. Goldstein would die less than a year later of a drug overdose.
It’s gutting to think that Alabama Barker might have had a premonition of something bad happening to her dad’s plane, and it turns out Travis and his buddies were also a bit apprehensive. The drummer recalled:
Chris takes a picture in front of it, and he’s like, ‘Fuck, this plane’s sketch. Like, we’re on the smallest plane at this fucking airport.’ I call my dad. I told him if something happens, like, make sure everything’s cool with the kids, you know?
His dad Randy remembers that conversation, as well, saying on the Hulu documentary:
He sent me a picture of the plane. He says, ‘This is what we’re getting on,’ and he says, ‘I don’t really want to get on this plane.’
The documentary went on to show Travis Barker’s recovery and his eventual marriage to Kourtney Kardashian. She was the one who helped him face his fears and get back on a plane. The couple has traveled around the world together — even having their wedding in Italy — but Travis Barker has said flying is still “terrible” for him.
His children apparently struggle with it as well, and considering what their dad went through and Alabama Barker’s eerie premonition at such a young age, who can blame them?
