Supergirl Just Cast A Founding Member Of The Legion Of Super-Heroes
Supergirl will return to the small screen in a few weeks to kick off Season 3, which promises to see the Girl of Steel tackle some challenges she's never had to face before. The new batch of episodes will feature less of some characters as well as the introduction of some new ones. Luckily, we just learned of one more new character who will be joining the series, and she just so happens to be a character from DC Comics who helped found the Legion of Super-Heroes. Saturn Girl is on the way, and she'll be played by Amy Jackson.
Saturn Girl (also known as Imra Ardeen) will be recurring on Supergirl Season 3, so we don't have to worry that she'll be a one-and-done character. The Supergirl version of the character will be a strong-willed individual whose kindness and intelligence make her one of the good guys. She was born on Titan, which is one of Saturn's moons. She'll arrive on Earth just in time to help Kara as Supergirl to battle an especially nasty bad guy. While Kara already brings most of the heavy-hitting powers to any battle, Saturn Girl has a power that Kara does not: telekinesis. Together, these two young women will undoubtedly make a formidable fighting force. Criminals in National City may want to consider early retirement from their lives of crime once Saturn Girl comes on the scene.
In DC Comics lore, Saturn Girl has another defining characteristic: she is mute. Natives of Titan communicate only by telepathy and have for many generations, which resulted in Titanians losing the use of vocal cords due to evolution. The comics version of Saturn Girl is still able to communicate with her teammates in the Legion of Super-Heroes via her telepathy, but is largely introverted. It should be interesting to see how Amy Jackson's version of Saturn Girl on Supergirl compares to the Saturn Girl of DC Comics.
The forthcoming arrival of Saturn Girl should be exciting for fans who have been waiting for payoff on all the teases of the Legion of Super-heroes on Supergirl. The show dropped its first major clue that the Legion could exist on Supergirl's Earth-38 way back in Season 1, when the series was still airing on CBS. Interestingly, one of the other early members of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the comics was none other than Mon-El. We'll have to wait and see if Supergirl's Mon-El has a part to play in Saturn Girl's arrival on Earth. If they cross paths, he could definitely ask her to visit Earth to help Kara, given that he can no longer stand the Earth's lead-infused atmosphere. Kara may need plenty of help in Season 3.
Amy Jackson is a 25-year-old Bollywood actress and model. Born in the United Kingdom and primarily working in Bollywood, her role as Saturn Girl on Supergirl will mark her debut in the United States. It should be fun to see her in a brand new kind of role. The CW has not yet announced when Saturn Girl will first turn up on Supergirl, but Kara and Co. will be back on the airwaves on Monday, October 9 at 8 p.m. ET for the Season 3 premiere.
