Jessica Jones' Season 2 Trailer Is Mysterious And Awesome

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an ever expanding place, including its small screen adventures. Netflix is the home for some of the MCU's best, including the triumphant first season of Jessica Jones. Krysten Ritter's complex and damaged hero thrilled audiences when it debuted in 2015, and they were glad to see her return to the universe in The Defenders. But she'll be able to go back to her roots in the show's sophomore season, and the trailer has just arrived. Check it out.

Jess is back, and feels so right. This new trailer teases quite a few major concepts for the show's second season, so let's break down all the potential twists and turns.

The video opens up with the horrific car crash that Jessica Jones experienced as a child. It took her family from her, and eventually she was given her powers of super strength and the ability to take a serious punch. Season 2 seems like it will be very much focused on these events, with the private investigator trying to piece together her own childhood. This will once again allow Jessica Jones to remain focused on its protagonist's psyche, as Season 1 highlighted her trauma in the wake of Kilgrave's control. More on him later.

Jessica Jones is a character with layers, and the audience really earns her vulnerability once we finally see it. As memories return to her about the experiments of her youth, it'll no doubt drive her to her vice: liquor. Jessica's alcoholism is one of the main aspects of her character, although it was used mostly for comedic purposes in The Defenders. Speaking of the miniseries, her adventure will no doubt affect her as well. After all, she thinks Matt Murdock is dead.

The supporting characters of Jessica Jones also appear, teasing where the title character's few loved ones will go when the series returns. Perhaps the most exciting is Rachael Taylor's Trish Walker and her superheroic ambitions. Fans have been hoping for her transition into the vigilante Hellcat from the comics since the role was announced. Trish has been physically training, although her role in The Defenders was noticeably lacking in action. But she seems ready to be Jessica's sidekick, so let's get the girl some claws and a costume ASAP.

Carrie-Anne Moss' Jeri Hogarth also makes an appearance, and it looks like she's got a new lady friend. Her divorce and affair were her primary motivators in the show's first season, and the reason why she was the victim of a brutal attack thanks to Kilgrave. Receptionist Pam broke off their relationship after having to kill to save Jeri, so it makes sense that the lawyer has moved on.

Of course, the most exciting cast member featured in the new trailer was David Tennant's Kilgrave. Despite being killed by Jessica in Season 1's finale, it appears that her nemesis will still pop up in the show's sophomore season. It's currently unclear if this will just be in Jessica's head as an affect of her trauma, or if Kilgrave actually rises from the dead. The trailer seems to hint at the latter, although it could be purposefully deceive fans.

All will be answered when Jessica Jones Season 2 debuts March 8th. In the meantime, check out our midseason premiere list to plan your next binge watch, and our cancellation list to see if your favorite show go the chop last year.
