Trial And Error Season 2 Has Found Its Replacement For John Lithgow

Olive Snook Kristin Chenoweth Pushing Daisies ABC

Trial & Error is coming back for Season 2, which means they needed someone to replace the amazing John Lithgow. Replacing Lithgow will be no small feat, given his performance as Larry Henderson was one of the best things about Season 1, but it appears the show has landed on the perfect actress to play a new suspected killer for Josh and the legal team to defend. Trial & Error has cast Kristin Chenoweth, last seen on TV in American Gods and Younger, to play the role of Lavinia Peck-Foster who, somehow, sounds even more guilty than Larry Henderson ever did.

Kristin Chenoweth's character Lavinia is described as an eccentric hairless cat-owning heiress who hasn't left her estate in years. Lavinia is suspected of murder when her husband Edgar is discovered dead and stuffed in a suitcase in the back of her car. The East Peck heiress, no doubt savvy to Josh and his legal team's work on Larry Henderson's case, enlists them to help her beat the rap in a murder trial that sounds very open and shut.

Kristin Chenoweth is the lastest casting for Season 2 of Trial & Error, which was renewed by NBC back in May of 2017. Aside from John Lithgow, everyone from the Season 1 cast is expected to return for Season 2, which has officially made the series an anthology of sorts with another trial from East Peck becoming the focus. While NBC has confirmed the series will return, no date has been given as to when it can be expected.

That's sure to come sooner rather than later, as series creator and executive producer Jeff Astrof sounds ready to chug ahead now that Kristin Chenoweth is on board. Astrof told TVLine that once the crew had decided on the next murderer being a "murderess," they all knew Chenoweth was the only person who could replace John Lithgow. Astrof said Trial & Error producers ended up getting their first choice for the role and teased that her presence in Season 2 could elevate the series to greater heights than before.

Indeed, the hype is real regarding what Kristin Chenoweth can bring to Trial & Error. Chenoweth's resume in television, film, and theatre make her an acting powerhouse capable of dominating any role she takes on. That's a great skill to have, considering most actors might find playing a reclusive heiress accused of murder a somewhat challenging role, although Chenoweth doesn't seem the type to balk at a challenge. Hopefully, her role as Lavinia Peck-Foster features a bit of singing, as it would be a shame to have her on for the entirety of Season 2 without singing at least a tune or two:

Kristin Chenoweth is confirmed for Trial & Error's Season 2 return on NBC, but a release date has yet to be revealed. For a list of dates and times for shows that are guaranteed to air in 2018, head over to our midseason premiere guide.
