NCIS Star Talks Ziva's Return, First Meeting With Kasie

No recent surprise on NCIS has been bigger than the reveal that Ziva is still alive. The character finally showed herself to Gibbs in the Season 16 finale, and this season's premiere showed that she was, in fact, not a figment of his imagination as some fans thought. Ziva's return has brought up a lot of mixed feelings for Gibbs and his team, even if they didn't get the chance to work with the super agent the first time around.

As you might imagine, the same is true for Kasie, who only joined the good people at NCIS for forensic duties in Season 15. When Ziva actually stopped by her old stomping grounds, she and Kasie didn't get a chance to interact, but now that we know that Ziva, and her portrayer Cote de Pablo, will be coming in for the fall finale and at least the first episode back from hiatus, there's an opportunity for that (and many other things) to change.

Diona Reasonover, who plays Kasie, recently spoke with CinemaBlend's Adam Holmes about Ziva's time in the fall finale and what fans can expect from the two characters on the popular drama. When asked if Kasie would be too busy again to actually meet the famous Ziva David this time around, here's what Reasonover had to say:

No, she’s definitely excited to meet Ziva. C’mon, dog, what would you be doing, how would you be if all of a sudden, people were like, ‘This case is life and death,’ and you finally got the information that you think will help save somebody’s life, and people were like ‘Did you hear Ziva’s in the lobby?’ Like, c’mon.

Ok, I can see where Diona Reasonover is coming from. The first time Ziva popped in to revisit her old NCIS office, Kasie was in the middle of some life and death forensic work and really couldn't take time away to introduce herself. This time though, things are going to be different, and Reasonover even went a step further and said that fans are going to be happy with what they see from Ziva in the fall finale.

I think that’s gonna be a very exciting episode. I know people have been clamoring for more Ziva, and this is an episode that’s not going to disappoint. You’re really gonna get to see some good action. I’m excited about this one.

Who's ready for some "good action"?! I think it's safe to say that every NCIS fan will love to see Ziva again, but will also be even happier to see her embroiled in a full-on action-packed plot. And, seeing as how the fall finale will focus on Gibbs and company helping her take care of "the one thing" she needs finished before she can return to Tali (and probably Tony). That sounds like it'll be an episode for the books.

Meanwhile, Diona Reasonover and Cote de Pablo did get to share some screen time together this time around. While they had met before, obviously they hadn't worked together as scene partners, and Reasonover had some lovely things to say about the experience of finally getting a chance to really work with de Pablo.

It felt a little bit a long time coming, because you know, obviously Cote and I would be at the table reads together and I got a chance to meet her. And she’s so nice and she’s a very cool person. And I really wanted a chance to just have the two of us interact, even if it was just for a brief moment. So I was excited that I finally got that chance. It was pretty cool.

I know what all you NCIS fans are thinking: That's cool and all, but what can we expect from this meeting between Kasie and Ziva in the actual episode? Well, it turns out that watching the two interact should allay any fears that, because Kasie didn't go out of her way to see Ziva the first time around, she and the beloved agent would end up at odds when they did finally meet each other.

I think there is some mutual respect. I know there’s some concern from some of the fans that Kasie was not jumping up and down that Ziva was back. But I think at that moment, it was a life-and-death case, and Kasie was really just trying to get the case moving along, get people the information they needed. She’s a little bit brash sometimes, I love that about her. In this scene, finally the chance when they get to meet, I don’t want to spoil it, but it is different than what you’ve seen previously.

Well, that's a nice little tease, isn't it? Diona Resonover didn't specify what, exactly, would be different about their time on screen together when Kasie and Ziva first meet, so now we have even more to look forward to with tonight's episode. Will Kasie be different? Or, will Ziva behave in a way that's foreign to us? Maybe the meeting in general will be something that we've never seen before on NCIS. We'll just have to wait and see.

Luckily, we don't have long to wait at all, because the fall finale of NCIS airs tonight, December 17, at 8 p.m. EST on CBS. For more of what you can watch in the new year, be sure to check out our 2020 winter / spring premiere guide.
