Dr. Lauren Bloom has had a tough time on New Amsterdam. She's survived that tragic ambulance crash, as well as a short-lived romance with a fellow recovering addict. Now, though, her past drug abuse is about to come back and haunt her in a significant way. In an exclusive clip from the March 10 episode “Perspectives,” Janet Montgomery's Bloom seeks help after struggling with her memory, and she needs assistance big time.

The hospital will be facing a malpractice lawsuit for a wrongful death, so the stakes are high when New Amsterdam resumes. Drs. Bloom, Reynolds and Goodwin will all be working on describing their interactions with the patient at the center of it. Unfortunately for Bloom, she will find that task challenging to do in the March 10 episode of New Amsterdam. In this exclusive clip from the renewed drama, she seeks help from Dr. Vijay Kapoor to learn if her drug use is playing a role in her memory lapse. Check it out:

As you can see in the above clip from the March 10 episode of New Amsterdam, Dr. Bloom finds someone highly equipped to help her, and Kapoor weighs in as only he can: as an ingenious neurologist. While Bloom initially believes it's her past drug abuse that's causing her memory issues, it may actually be something else.

At least, that is the indication that I am getting from Kapoor. Bloom shares that her mother, Jeanie, who has struggled with alcoholism and does not remember the past 15 years. Fans will recall that Bloom’s mother, played by Gina Gershon, was introduced earlier in New Amsterdam Season 2 (even if she can't recall it herself).

Based on Kapoor’s reaction to what Bloom shared, it seems like a medical storyline might be underway with Jeanie Bloom. Kapoor rules out any major concerns where Bloom’s current memory issues are concerned. However, her mother is apparently a whole different story. Is New Amsterdam introducing a health crisis for Jeanie Bloom?

Fans will have to stay tuned. Besides the “weird” and “taboo,” New Amsterdam is not shy about plunging its main characters into grim circumstances. Max was diagnosed with cancer in the series premiere, and his wife died shortly after having their daughter. Hence, Bloom learning that her mother has a severe condition is not beyond the realm of belief.

In the promo for the March 10 episode of New Amsterdam, Max warns that a lawsuit could take the hospital down. Something tells me it will be safe, given the fact that New Amsterdam will be around NBC for years longer. Plus, Hawaii Five-0 veteran, Daniel Dae Kim, will be coming to New Amsterdam in April. Kim will be playing Dr. Cassian Shin, the new head trauma surgeon. Since Dr. Shin is coming to the show, the hospital has to still be standing, right?

The question is, what is going on with Bloom and her mother and what the repercussions will be with the lawsuit? Tune in and find out what happens.

A new episode of New Amsterdam airs tonight, Tuesday, March 10, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. Stay tuned because there will be lots of winter and spring premieres set to join the medical drama.
