It's been a strange year for Marvel fans. Since 2010 and the arrival of the Iron Man and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, audiences have gotten a steady stream of adaptations from the comic book franchise... but 2020 has been different. Originally scheduled for November, Chloé Zhao's The Eternals has become a February 2021 release, and right now it is unclear if Cate Shortland's Black Widow, originally delayed from May, will still hit its current November date.

The ultimate good news is that 2020 definitely won't be totally Marvel-less, as WandaVision has just debuted a trailer that has us crazy hyped for its arrival at the end of the year:

While we are now only a few months away from the release of WandaVision (the smart money says December), we don't really know much about the plot at the center of WandaVision... and the truth is that this trailer doesn't really help all that much. The last time we saw them, Vision (Paul Bettany) was still dead after Thanos ripped the Mind Stone out of his head in Avengers: Infinity War, and Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth OIsen) was still grieving the painful loss. It's been predicted that what we're actually going to be seeing in the Disney+ series is Wanda having a bit of a mental breakdown and altering reality with her powers – something that has fantastic precedent in the comics (see: House Of M).

Wanda's preferred version of reality has her living an idyllic, sitcom-like family life with Vision as her husband... but the problem is that things are a bit fuzzy around the edges. The moment at the dinner table with the couple and That 70's Show veteran Debra Jo Rupp and Fred Melamed seems to showcase a bit of reality crumbling when details don't entirely add up. There are some constantly shifting aesthetics that seem to tour us through multiple decades of television, though it's not clear right now exactly what it is that causes the shifts.

Of course, not only is it exciting to see what Scarlet Witch and Vision are up to in the trailer, but this footage also provides us with some first looks at new characters. The big standout is Kathryn Hahn, whose role has yet to be identified beyond "Nosey Neighbor." The vibe I get from what we see her is definitely sinister, particularly the moment when she is talking with the android and confronting him with the reality that he is supposed to be dead. Let the guess game commence as to who it is she is playing from the comics, because it seems like the answer is going to be held as a secret up until WandaVision is released.

Then there is the other new arrival: Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau. The Mad Men/Empire actress is playing the adult version of Akira Akbar's character from Captain Marvel, and her debut here inspires a hell of a lot of questions. The footage seems to show her rocketing through a portal from a daytime location into a nighttime location where she is located by a group of government agents. Could this be a preview of Monica demonstrating her Photon powers for the first time? Time will tell.

In addition to this new trailer, Disney+ has also released a brand new WandaVision poster and collection of stills, which you can check out in the gallery below.

While they're seemingly not featured in the WandaVision trailer, the series is also set to feature the return of Kat Dennings' Darcy Lewis and Randall Park's Jimmy Woo – and hopefully we'll get to see their faces in the show's marketing soon. Disney+ has not yet announced an official release date, but it has been promised for 2020, and we'll keep you updated here on CinemaBlend with news on that front and all other things regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the coming days, weeks, months, and years.
