There have been a lot of rumors floating around about what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might be doing next, especially with them having signed a massive, multi-year overall deal with Netflix. One of the rumors was that fans would get to see them in some sort of reality show, and now the famous couple has responded to those reports.
Once the dust settled (a bit) after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decamped for California and left their duties as royals behind, it wasn't a huge surprise that they would use their fame to create content which would draw attention to some of the causes they support. But, when rumors began recently that the couple would appear in a reality show for Netflix after they signed their deal, they decided to speak out and clear up those reports. A spokesman for the couple has now told Hello! Magazine:
The Duke and Duchess are not taking part in any reality shows.
I think it's pretty safe to say that that should clear up any more rumors on the subject of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle headlining their own reality show any time soon, don't you agree? While I certainly understand why their fans (and even those who aren't fans) would have been looking forward to such a thing, it always seemed like a bit of a long shot. For one thing, Markle has been very up front about not wanting to go back to any kind of full time, on-camera career now that her stint on Suits is long over, so it makes sense that appearing on what would be one of the most watched and talked about reality shows of recent years would also count as a no-go.
Secondly, the main goal of the Netflix deal seems to be taking the focus off of themselves, which fits, considering how they eagerly left behind one of the most famous families in the world to lessen the scrutiny which had been on them since they began dating. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are looking to create a wide variety of entertainment options for all ages on Netflix, and while projects such as scripted TV shows, movies, children's programming, documentaries and docu-series are all on the table, a spokesman for the streamer told PA Entertainment:
The couple already has several projects in development, including an innovative nature docu-series and an animated series that celebrates inspiring women but we are not disclosing any of the programming slate at this time.
When those rumors of a reality show began to make the rounds, it was thought that the series would focus on the couple's philanthropic efforts, but still follow them for three months to showcase some of their new life in Santa Barbara with their young son, Archie, in a fly-on-the-wall style. But, when the couple spoke about their upcoming work with Netflix after word of their deal came out, they freely admitted that they were looking into "creating content that informs but also gives hope" so that they could "share impactful content that unlocks action," and it's somewhat unlikely that a long-form look into their personal lives would do that.
It's probably disappointing to many people that they won't get the chance to see Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in a reality show, but at least they can take comfort in the fact that the couple is committed to using their work with Netflix to help bring about positive changes in the world. There will, surely, be more details to come about all of their streaming projects, so be sure to stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest!
