A week after Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan was arrested for allegedly strangling his girlfriend during an argument, more details about the traumatic incident are starting to emerge. Prosecutors officially charged the actor with two felonies, strangulations and coercion, as well as six additional misdemeanors. The state also set two future court dates he will need to attend and ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim.
According to TMZ, the unidentified woman, who was allegedly in a relationship with Zachery Ty Bryan, claims she was asleep when the actor grabbed her by the hair, pulled her out of bed and started beating her after he couldn’t find his phone charger. He also allegedly choked her, put his knee on her back and disconnected the phone when she tried to call police. When the authorities arrived, they reportedly found Bryan sitting outside and the woman at a neighboring apartment. She reportedly had bruises and police spotted some blood.
During her interview, she reportedly told police Bryan had become abusive toward her in the last month of their relationship and outlined the basic sequence of events that night, as told above. He was also interviewed and reportedly told the police she attacked him after he broke up with her. He was arrested and taken to jail a short time later. He was eventually released on an $8500 cash bail.
Bryan is best known for playing oldest son Brad Taylor on the hit Tim Allen sitcom Home Improvement. The show ran from 1991 to 1999 with the actor in question featured on 203 episodes and remains quite popular. He picked up some bit parts in TV shows and movies over the next several years, but he was never again able to capture the success he found with Home Improvement. In recent years, he transitioned over to the producing side and has credits on a handful of projects including a recent Sophie Turner movie called Heavy.
Zachery Ty Bryan is due back in court on November 20th and again on November 30th. At this point, it’s unclear whether he will plead out or attempt to fight the charges. Following his release, the actor also deleted a recent social media post announcing he was splitting up with his wife, though it’s unclear whether that was to spare his estranged wife from the attention or because some social media users were accusing him of plagiarizing it from popular actor Armie Hammer. Regardless, there’s sure to be plenty of media coverage around Bryan’s case as it works its way toward trial. We’ll let you know if there are any new developments or if either Bryan himself or the victim decide to speak on the record publicly about what happened.
