Why Stranger Things Season 4 Is David Harbour's Favorite So Far

David Harbour as Jim Hopper on Stranger Things (2019)

The end of Stranger Things Season 3 left many fans wondering about the fate of David Harbour’s Chief Jim Hopper. But the Season 4 trailer found Hopper working on a railroad somewhere in Russia. While details on the highly anticipated season are scarce, the actor revealed why its his favorite so far.

David Harbour has spent the past three seasons portraying beloved fan-favorite Jim Hopper, who tries to balance protecting Hawkins, Indiana from otherworldly forces and caring for his adopted daughter, Eleven. His sacrifice at the end of Season 3 was a moment of growth for him as he went from a lovable and reckless goof to a courageous hero. Like fans and critics, the actor has enjoyed Hopper’s progression through the seasons, and he recently told People why this season is his favorite:

And one of the great things that you can see with Hopper is that he was a protector, he's a man of justice [and] he now has become a prisoner. He's trapped and he's isolated. And we get to see an entirely other color of him that has been hinted at. This season is my favorite because he really is going to show you some new colors and what he's really made up of.

Harbour revealed Hopper isn’t the only one experiencing growth in Season 4 and said viewers will be excited by the fan service sprinkled into the upcoming season. Harbour and fans have seen the young cast grow over the seasons, and it's always fun to see how these characters continue to evolve.

Stranger Things’ young cast has captured the fascination of sci-fi fans and television critics since the first season. Since finding success with the show, the actors, such as Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo, have gone on to do more film and television outside of the show, allowing them to test their acting range in the process.

But the actors currently find themselves in production on Stranger Things Season 4, and the road hasn't been easy. The new season began filming earlier this year before the COVID-19 pandemic caused production to shut down. Despite this, the show's creatives have remained busy, and the extra time allowed them to finish writing the season before filming resumed a few months ago.

Fans have been chomping at the bit for more details about the new episodes, though (as per usual) details are being kept close to the vest. Nevertheless, Harbour has previously spoken highly of it, comparing it to Indiana Jones. Joe Keery also says it will be scarier than prior years. Needless to say, the new episodes should be well worth the wait.
