Netflix's the Baby-Sitters Club Recasts Lead, And Fans Can Blame Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness

Xochitl Gomez as Dawn Schafer in The Baby-Sitters Club.

The first season of The Baby-Sitters Club released on Netflix last summer and was praised by critics and fans everywhere, especially those who grew up on the books and 90s TV series. With the show filled with a talented cast, it's not too surprising that one star had to leave the series before Season 2 in order to tackle a role in a different universe. Specifically, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Doctor Strange's next film.

Production on Season 2 of The Baby-Sitters Club is currently underway, with majority of the cast returning. However, Seventeen reports that Kyndra Sanchez has been cast as Dawn Schafer in the upcoming season, replacing Xochitl Gomez. The reasoning is that Gomez is filming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as America Chavez, a.k.a. Miss America. Both projects are being filmed at the same time and with Dawn as such a big part of the series, the role had to be recast. Gomez ultimately chose to step away from the Netflix series to work on the Marvel film that will no doubt solidify her new superhero role in the MCU.

Netflix released a video about Xochitl Gomez’s big news, noting that she would always be part of the Baby-Sitters Club. The video also showed Kyndra Sanchez’s reaction to finding out that she has been cast as Dawn, with Sophie Grace, Malia Baker, Momona Tamada and Shay Rudolph surprising her with the news virtually, and she could barely contain herself. It seems Sanchez will fit into the club perfectly, but Gomez’s exit will no doubt be felt in the next season. Take a look!

Recently, Kyndra Sanchez had a supporting role in Netflix’s Finding ‘Ohana, as well as a small role in an episode of The Queen’s Gambit. Playing Dawn in The Baby-Sitters Club seems like it’s going to be Sanchez’s biggest role yet and to see what she does with it will be interesting. Xochitl Gomez, meanwhile, will be making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in next year’s Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness as the young superhero, Miss America. Gomez will be starring alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

With The Baby-Sitters Club, anyone who joins the BSC is a member for life, and maybe Xochitl Gomez will make her return in a future season. And while there’s no telling when Season 2 of the reboot will premiere, we can look forward to (hopefully) seeing some behind-the-scenes content and how Kyndra Sanchez is fitting in to the mix. Although we’ll miss Gomez as Dawn, we wish her the best as she saves the world in the new Doctor Strange movie! And we can’t wait to see what Sanchez does to this beloved character. The first season of The Baby-Sitters Club is streaming on Netflix.
