Spoilers ahead for This Is Us, Season 5, Episode 14 “The Music and the Mirror.”
Wedding bells are ringing soon on This Is Us! As Kevin and Madison’s special day comes closer, so do the activities that come along with it. While Madison was trying on wedding dresses on this week’s episode, next week will include their respective bachelor and bachelorette parties. However, co-executive producer Kevin Falls and writer Jonny Gomez tease the parties and it’s not something one would expect.
New parents Kevin and Madison are not only busy trying to plan their wedding, but also occupied with their baby twins. And on this week’s episode, Kevin also went to a screening of his new film, the one he stormed off the set of to be there for the birth of his twins. The movie turned out to be horrible, making Kevin worry about the future of his acting career, and the future of his family.
Meanwhile, Madison got the news that due to a work emergency, her father will not be able to make it to the wedding. The couple is obviously very stressed for multiple reasons, but their bachelor and bachelorette parties could be the key to cheering them up. Kevin Falls tells Entertainment Weekly that their respective parties are very… different. Falls explained:
Who doesn't like a bachelor and a bachelorette party? These are two very, very unusual bachelor and bachelorette parties, like you've never seen before.
Unusual parties aside, it wouldn’t be a This Is Us episode without emotions and revelations: the perfect recipe for This Is Us. Each character lately has been going through something, on top of Kevin and Madison. Randall found out the truth about his birth mother, Beth’s dance studio shut down, Toby is out of a job, Kate is worried about Toby, and even more. Perhaps these parties will be a good thing for the Pearsons. As Jonny Gomez said, it’s a lot of fun, but also very emotional:
Revelations will be made. Bachelor and bachelorette parties are just tricky things in general, and when you have this group of men and women, you're going to have a lot of fun. You're also going to have, in classic This Is Us style, a lot of emotional breakthrough.
Now that This Is Us is down to the final two episodes of Season 5, the Pearsons are going to have to look ahead to the future. Earlier today, THR reported that This Is Us will be ending after Season 6 sometime next year, which has been the original plan. It will be interesting to see where the Pearsons will be at the end of Season 5, as compared to the beginning of Season 6, especially with some expansions to the family.
