The leaves are changing, the nights are getting chilly, and that can only mean one thing - it’s time to reunite with our friends on Wisteria Lane. Okay, that’s probably not what you thought I was going to say, but tonight’s the night, and that’s pretty much all I can think about. Last season’s finale left me crazy curious, and I can’t wait to see how Desperate Housewives’ creator Marc Cherry handles the five year jump.
For anyone who missed the finale, it ended five years into the “future.” Lynette & Tom’s kids were teenagers, Gabby and Carlos had two little girls (one is chubby), Bree published a cookbook and is semi-famous, and Susan is (gasp) not married to Mike – or at least some other guy is living in her house helping her raise Mike and Susan’s son M.J. Oh, and Edie moved away just before the jump, so who knows what is going on with her.
Since tonight is the premiere, I thought I’d throw out what I know about the first episode as a preview. There are spoilers ahead, so don’t read if you don’t want to know!
Personally, I think the whole Mike-Susan thing is the biggest news, so I’m going to tackle that first. Kristin over at E! reported back in August that "Susan is living with that other guy when the season begins, but she and Mike are still legally married. The official divorce won't be in effect for some time to come." Which can only mean that Susan and the new guy – who is name is Jackson – will not last. I am crossing my fingers, because while Susan makes me want to shove her in a closet and throw away the key, I totally love Mike.
Lynette and Tom have one heck of a hard time with their kids. With three of my own, I see this as my future…Yikes! Porter and Preston are holy-freaking-terrors, and cause many, many problems; I think that Marc Cherry might be a supporter of corporal punishment (spanking) for kids. ‘Cause we all know Lynette doesn’t spank – and look how that turns out for her. My favorite spoiler site SpoilerFix says that the twins threw a party at the restaurant where teens played poker, drank alcohol and smoked cigars. Their defense? "Mom, we didn't think you would be here." Lynette learns that the boys have been throwing parties like these for months! They even have the nerves to ask Lynette if they can be grounded in a week because Homecoming is on Friday! Nice.
And, just to whet your appetite for the rest of the season - Bree is apparently still married to Orson, in spite of kicking him out, because he is still on the show, and she is still married. Edie returns to the Lane, with a new husband (played by Neal McDonough) in tow. And Gabby is a total frump with two kids – though I think the surprising news is that she and Carlos are still together.
9pm EDT, tonight is the time, and if you aren’t there, we’ll have a recap for you after the show. I know I’m pretty excited, and if you are reading this, you probably are too. Get ready, cause it looks like this may be the best season yet.
