How The Mythbusters Hosts Are Saying Goodbye To The Show

It was just a few days ago that Discovery announced the heartbreaking news that the Mythbusters team will be closing shop next year. Although the show has one more season and will thereafter live on via reruns, it’s still a little bittersweet to know we’re going to have to say goodbye to Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman soon. Luckily, to make the transition a little easier on fans, the two men have put together a special farewell post, thanking fans for being enthusiastic and having suggestions. Here’s how the men are saying goodbye:

A week ago, Discovery announced that Mythbusters will be ending, but will at least give fans some closure with a few new episodes, which is more than most shows that are seeing its ratings falter ever get. We already know that new episodes are set to hit the schedule in 2016, but the video gives us a look at what we can expect from the final episodes, including what looks like a rocket, a giant slingshot of some sort and some other plot featuring a helicopter. And even though the show will still be down a few cast members during its final run on cable, at least the guys will get to go out on a high note.

While the new footage is great, the crown jewel is the message from Hyneman (who cracks a joke about his beret) and Savage, who has some incredible points to make about his time on the show. Here’s part of what he has to say to the fans who stuck with the show for many years:

Hey, we’re here to address something you might have heard about Mythbusters. And we’re here to tell you that it is, in fact, true. Our crazy, wild, amazing, wooly, wonderful adventure is finally coming to a close.

On the bright side, Discovery has frequently relied on reruns to supplement Mythbusters’ run, and there will be an abundance of reruns coming up soon. Old episodes of the series are shifting over to the Science Channel, which has plans to air a big marathon of the long-running show for several days in a row, starting on December 23 and ending on January 3.

Plus the Mythbusters duo has been clear that the show will end on a high note, formerly noting:

Our finale will go out with a bang, as everyone would expect.

The final season of Mythbusters will begin airing on Discovery on January 9. In addition, you can see what has yet to premiere this fall with our fall TV premiere schedule.
