Mandy Moore Joins ABC Comedy Pilot Pulling

Will Mandy Moore ever make it to television? She’s taking another stab at it. ABC has cast her in the comedy pilot Pulling, which is based on a British series. This is the second pilot she’s done for the network, and she was also attached to another project earlier in the season. Will the third time be the charm for the former teen star?

Moore has been tapped as one of the three female leads in the comedy, which focuses on three women in their 30s – am I the only one who can’t believe Mandy Moore has reached thirty-something status? – and who may not quite have it all figured out in spite of society’s expectations. Deadline says Moore will play Louise, who is desperate but hopeful of snagging a man to marry although her attempts usually backfire. Pulling ran for three successful seasons in the UK, wrapping in 2009. I wasn’t able to get into it in spite of a general appreciation for British humor, but I’ll give the new version the benefit of the doubt.

Moore starred in a pilot for ABC last season that didn’t wind up going to series, and earlier this pilot season they gave a put pilot commitment to a Rich Appel comedy project that had the actress attached. This third attempt to seems to make it pretty clear ABC wants her on their schedule; hopefully it will have more success than the previous attempts. We’ll keep you posted on which two actresses land roles alongside Mandy Moore for the pilot.
