Sleeping Dogs: Triad Wars Footage Leaks Ahead Of Announcement

United Front Games has announced that they will be officially unveiling Triad Wars, the spinoff to Sleeping Dogs. It's not just an announcement, it's going to be a full unveil. We get a taste of the game with a teaser bit of video with leaked footage.

DSO Gaming spotted the new video, which you can check out above. It's only seven seconds and doesn't really show much. It looks kind of cool as far as gameplay goes – since it's basically just Sleeping Dogs designed as a third-person MMO. The combat mechanics are still the same and we see where the environments and multi-character fighting is still as seamless as it was when the game first released... well, judging by the seven second clip, anyway.

We also see that character customization still seems to be par the course, which is pretty cool. I do wonder if the game will be an asymmetric MMO where players will partake in single-player content with some multiplayer options made available (similar to Destiny) or if the game will be like the typical Korean MMOs where players will grind and fight their way around the game map with other players doing their own thing, too? I guess we'll find out Monday.

James Baldwin, the community manager for United Front Games posted a message over on the official website, stating...

“James here, Community Manager for the upcoming PC online game we’re making here at United Front Games, Triad Wars.“I wanted to let you know that we will be unveiling the game on Monday! We are extremely excited to finally show you what we have been working on so stay tuned to this space!”

The post also notes that United Front Games will be holding an AMA on Reddit at 12PM PST, this upcoming Tuesday on September 23rd.

The original Sleeping Dogs came out in 2012 and wasn't quite a breakaway success. It's built an audience over time, though. The game was well-designed and had some solid gameplay mechanics and a decent story. What really helped it stand apart from the competition was the fact that Hong Kong was captured in a completely different light, and it was one of the first times gamers had an open-world, uninhibited look at the territory in a modern setting, as well as pulling a lot of the action and theatrics from the 1980s Hong Kong cinema movement.

The game was like a mix of a Jackie Chan movie and a John Woo flick combined together. I definitely enjoyed the game.

With Triad Wars, hopefully it's not one of those online cash-in titles that companies throw out there just to make some extra bank; Sleeping Dogs deserves better. We'll find out just what they have in store for us when the game is officially announced this Monday.
