It seems movie theaters will be playing songs of ice and fire this weekend, as the Hunger Games sequel and Disneyís Frozen are likely to light up the box office. Early estimates suggest Catching Fire will come out on top, but Frozen wonít be far behind. Catching Fireís estimated five-day weekend haul is in the $90 million range, while Frozen is believed to do about $80 million for the same time period.

Deadline reported these numbers, along with word that the Hunger Games sequel took in somewhere between $19 million and $22 million on Wednesday night, while Frozen grossed between $15 million and $17 million for its wide release last night.

As Deadline points out, in terms of total numbers, it would be hard to top last yearís Thanksgiving weekend box office take, but last year had the final Twilight movie, Skyfall, Lincoln, Life of Pi and Wreck-It Ralph. There really was a little something for everyone in the theater last Thanksgiving. But itís hard to complain about this yearís movie options. For some of us, itís more a question of whether to head back into the arena for a second helping of Hunger Games or give Frozen a try. Iím leaning toward the latter, though Iíve found that Catching Fireís one of those movies thatís really stuck with me, and I do kind of want to see it again while itís still in theaters, preferably before the flood of promising December movies begin to make their way into theaters in the coming weeks. (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Saving Mr. Banks, American Hustle, Anchorman 2, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Wolf of Wall Street, etc).

If thereís a common thread among this yearís Thanksgiving movies, itís great sibling connections among the characters featured. We have Katniss and Prim in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Anna and Elsa in Frozen, Thor and Loki in Thor 2: The Dark World and, well, all of Vince Vaughnís kids in Delivery ManÖ technically, right?

Weíll have to wait and see how the big movies perform at the box office over the next five days, and whether Frozen and Catching Fire manage to live up to or surpass their estimated hauls. In the meantime, Catching Fireís already surpassed the $300 million mark when combining its domestic and foreign box office takes since it debuted November 22.
