Good News: The Bible Drama Risen Is Apparently OK For Christians To See

Still can’t decided whether or not to see Risen this weekend? Well, those of you who are on the fence about watching the Biblical epic are in luck, because the good folks over at Faith Driven Consumer have endorsed the film. In fact, the Christian advocacy group waxed lyrical about Risen, as the head of their organization told their millions of subscribers:

Risen is, at long last, the movie we’ve all been waiting for.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this message was written by Faith Driven Consumer’s Chris Stone; who then decided to spread the word via email. Faith Driven Consumer didn’t stop there though, because they also provided a review for Risen, giving the film 4.5 stars out of 5. You can check out CinemaBlend's thoughts on Risen by clicking here.

However, rather than being an indication of the cinematic qualities of Risen, this score is a representation of just how "faith-friendly" and entertaining it is. Faith Driven Consumer was clearly a big fan of Risen though, even going as far as to give it the same score as Mel Gibson’s The Passion Of The Christ.

Sony Pictures’ Affirm Films and Columbia Pictures, the studios behind Risen, will actually be rather ecstatic that Faith Driven Consumer has thrown its weight behind the film. The organization says that it serves 41 million Christians, who, collectively, spend around $2 trillion every year, while 10 million people read their recommendations by email and visiting their website.

In the past, Faith Driven Consumer hasn't been as positive to the likes of Noah and Exodus. And while Darren Aronofsky’s take on the story of Noah, and his rather humungous ark, managed to overcome this sleight and gross $362 million on a $125 million budget, Exodus: Gods And Kings, which cost at least $20 million more, taking into consideration its marketing, only took in $268.2 million.

Set in the aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus Of Nazareth, Risen revolves around Joseph Fiennes’ Clavius, a powerful Roman Centurion, who is appointed by Pontius Pilate to investigate the rumors that Jesus has risen from the dead, all of which has instigated an uprising in Jerusalem.

Risen’s impressive cast sees Joseph Fiennes joined by Tom Felton (Harry Potter'sDraco Malfoy), Cliff Curtis (Fear The Walking Dead), and Peter Firth (Spooks), while it’s been written and directed by Kevin Reynolds, whose previous efforts behind the camera have included Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves and Waterworld.

Those of you who want to see if it can live up to Faith Driven Consumer’s stellar review can do so now, because Risen was released into cinemas across the country today.
