Return to District 9 With Behind-The-Scenes DVD Clips

District 9 was one of the best surprises of the summer, and if you're like me you've been itching to get your hands (or pinchers, talons, manipulator appendages, or whatever the case may be) on the Blu-ray to dig deeper into the world of shantytowns and aliens with a taste for cat food. The film finally arrives on Blu-ray and DVD next week, December 22nd. In the meantime, get your prawn on with several clips from the film and the special features.

If you somehow missed it, District 9 envisions a world not long after an alien mothership descended above Johannesburg, South Africa. With the ship out of power, Johannesburg is forced to deal with an influx of insectoid aliens nicknamed "prawns." The film follows local bureaucrat Wikus Van De Merwe (Sharlto Copley), who is in charge of overseeing the relocation of the prawns to a new, more secluded camp. After he is exposed to an unknown alien technology, which begins a wholly unexpected odyssey that gives him far more insight into the plight of the prawns than he ever wanted. Produced by Peter Jackson and directed by would-be HALO movie director Neill Blomkamp, District 9 is one of the most impressive genre outings in years, even if the Alien Nation comparisons aren't entirely unfair. With everyone trumpeting the visual mastery of Avatar, take a look at what Blomkamp and company accomplished for a fraction of the cost.

Fair warning: some of these clips dip into SPOILER TERRITORY. Proceed with caution!
