Star Trek Into Darkness International Trailer Boasts Jaw-Dropping Action

Who is the villain at the center of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness? It's a question many have become positively obsessed by. We know Benedict Cumberbatch plays the baddie in the sequel to Abrams' stupendous Star Trek reboot. This trailer, which premiered at Apple, reveals him to be a terrorist (albeit a brooding and deadly handsome one) as well as one of Starfleet's top agents. He's a murderer, a solid trash talker, and a threat so dangerous it spurs James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) to go rogue in pursuit of him. But who is he?!

In this international trailer, Abrams doesn't show his hand, but does show off plenty of jaw-dropping action sequences, spectacular special effects, and welcomed Kirk and Spock banter. It's giving us far more than the teaser unveiled earlier this month, yet leaves us wanting more. Bravo, Abrams. Bravo.

For this sequel, Pine is back along with Karl Urban as Bones, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, and of course Zachary Quinto as Spock. This time, the crew of the enterprise follows Kirk on a defiant quest to track down a one-man weapon of mass destruction, even when he leads them into a treacherous war zone. In short, it sounds like an edge-of-your-seat thriller, and the anticipation is killing us.

Star Trek Into Darkness opens May 17th. Yes, it's ages away. But in the meantime, you can revel in a plethora of stills and trailers from the film, and discover more with the Star Trek into Darkness app.
