Watch Deadpool Hilariously Save A Cat In A Tree

The Merc with the Mouth is undoubtedly super, but always seems to deny any and all assertions of his status as a hero. Based upon everything we have seen Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) do lately we have to wholeheartedly disagree. He’s the absurdly violent, vulgar, and all-around badass hero we didn’t even know we needed. No job seems too small for psychotic pop culture enthusiast Wade Wilson; even with the release of Deadpool this weekend he still finds time to help save cats rescued in trees. Check out the video below to get a better sense of what I mean.

Opening on a young woman who has lost her cat up a tree, the video shows Deadpool – who must have just been strolling along the sidewalk – deciding to offer up his assistance. Despite his earnest disdain for felines (somthing heavily alluded to in the film), he eventually tries his hand at getting the cat down. First drawing his pistols, we all think we know what’s going to happen, but then he merely hands them (safety off) to the young woman. Scaling the tree, Wade Wilson eventually manages to get the cat, and the promo anti-climactically ends. Literally, the video just fades out without even mentioning the Deadpool movie’s release.

Have we mentioned that Deadpool has had an absolutely genius marketing campaign? We have? Okay, just making sure. This promo works on a number of levels, the first of which is the way in which it portrays just how casual Deadpool can be about everything; he strolls along the sidewalk armed to the teeth, but still manages to crack wise in the most nonchalant manner possible.

Secondly, it works because it completely defies our expectations; based upon what we know about the Merc with the Mouth, we would expect him to simply blow the cat out of the tree, or use his sword, or maybe something even more vicious. Nope, he scales the tree and brings the kitten down. It’s the sort of gesture that reminds us how unpredictable of a character Deadpool can be while endearing us to him because he’s still willing to (occasionally) do the right thing.

I suppose at the end of the day there’s only one real question I have for you as a reader: why are you still reading this article? Go see Deadpool right now. I’m not joking. Go. The absolutely amazing superhero movie is hilarious, pulse pounding, and weirdly heartfelt at times. The film hit theaters yesterday and seems poised to break all sorts of R-rated records, so check it out as soon as possible.
