It Looks Like Avengers: Infinity War Will Revisit An Important Age Of Ultron Moment

Thanos in The Marvel Universe

One of the last times we saw Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in a Marvel Studios movie, he was leaving the Avengers' facility to explore the origins of the Infinity Stones -- powerful devices that were creating all sorts of headaches for Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Thor had visions of the powerful stones, and now a picture from the set of Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War suggests that those Age of Ultron visions will come back to haunt the Avengers in their next adventure.

The Tweet, posted by MCU Tweets, has a shot of an Avengers: Infinity War set. (Click here to view it on Twitter.) In the image is a statue. And those eagle-eyed fans recognized it as this statue of a bearded knight or warrior who was part of Thor's waking nightmare. This dude:

Statue from Avengers: Age of Ultron

Who pops up in this scene. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has stepped into a pool and is conjuring a vision of the destruction of what he assumes is Asgard. There's a party happening -- a sort of end-of-the-world extravaganza -- and lightning is coursing through his limbs. Ultimately, the lightning shoots into the sky, and Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon triggers a visual history lesson of the Infinity Stones, which are being pursued by Thanos.

Yeah, it doesn't make a lot of sense. But seeing as how we haven't had a lot of Thanos backstory in the Marvel movies SINCE Age of Ultron, we have to take every bit of explanation we can get. This new photo, from the set of Avengers: Infinity War, either suggests that Thor will reach the castle where this vision was taking place... or the Russos will include a flashback to the moment that Thor realized he needed to track down the Infinity Stones and get to the bottom of Thanos' motivations.

The statue stands out. It's an eye-catching visual, and one that's clearly meant to harken back to the Thor scenes from Avengers: Age of Ultron. Do you think there will be more to its inclusion? We don't have to wait too long to find out. This summer, the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with two more solo adventures in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragarok. After that, the Avengers will assemble in May 2018 for their long-awaited battle with Thanos (Josh Brolin). Could Hela (Cate Blanchett) be a part of Thanos' plan? Will she be the Death equivalent to this universe destroyer? We can't wait to find out.
