My Feelings On Downton Abbey's Season Finale, In GIF Form

It has been a whirlwind of a season, which I'm about to sum up, so obviously SPOILERS AHEAD.

Early on in the season, the livelihood of everyone at the grand estate was threatened because Lord Grantham has no head for investments. But the day was saved thanks to Matthew's fortuitous inheritance from Lavinia's late father, which he accepted in a very reluctant, very Matthew way. Then the safety of Lady Sybil and her unborn baby were threatened when the cowardly socialist Branson raged class warfare then took off running. (I hate you so much, Branson!)

But! She made it safely to Downton…only to die in a very traumatic childbirth sequence. Her death caused a major riff between Lord and Lady Grantham, and in the meantime the downstairs was scandalized over Thomas's very painful outing and subsequent threat of arrest. And Edith was left at the altar. (Poor Edith!) But then, some bright spots: Bates is exonerated, and after years of will they won't they, romantic rivals, and possible infertility, Matthew and Mary were both married and trying for a baby!

And that catches us up to the Christmas Special, which if you haven't yet watched you should immediately. Then come back, and share in my many, many feelings. (Just a note: I wanted to stick to Downton only GIFs, but the show is far too reserved to properly reflect my reactions. I am, after all, a vulgar American.)

Oh pregnant Mary looks so relaxed. Mary NEVER looks relaxed!

Mary being bitchy to Edith, happens every day that ends in 'y.' Business as usual at Downton.

Few things are as worrisome as O'Brien making friends. I mean, think back on how she treats her "friends."

All the downstairs staff of Downton is going to the fair! Old school good times!

"Come and meet my sister Mary." If Mary were a superhero, her withering stare would literally set people ablaze.

Regarding the new maid Edna, I'm not saying she's a gold digger, but….

I'm not gonna' lie, Rose's horrific mother is making this brash Jazz baby way more sympathetic. Maybe Anna and Bates can adopt her?

"What's the matter with being girlish once in a while…I hope he's worth it." I would totally watch a Mrs. Hughes/Mrs. Patmore spin-off show. In fact, I would watch the shit out of that.

Why is everyone acting like Edith has tons of husband options? This has been proved to be painfully untrue over and over…Poor Edith.

Oh, Thomas. I love hating you. Why are you doing this to me?

Ever-stern Carson cradles Baby Sybil and my heart melts.

Let's all just relish in this happy moment with Bates and Anna. Reel, Anna, reel!

Scandal be damned, Edith is not giving up her Mr. Rochester!

Regarding Mosely's "spirited" dance: "They do say there's a wild man in all of us." "If only he'd stay inside."

So the wild young Rose will grow up at Downton....I approve of this development.

Oh god, why is it taking so long for Mary to have this baby? They already killed Sybil, they can't kill Mary. Maybe the baby, but how many Crawley heirs can believably die during the course of this show?

"Hello, my dearest little chap. I wonder if he has any idea how much joy he brings with him." Downton is safe! Matthew and Mary are happy with their bundle of joy/baby heir. Guys, I think everything's going to be okay. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Wait....what's happening.

No. No! NO!

...

Well, I do NOT approve of this development.

Talk amongst yourselves...I need to be alone.
