Wolfenstein Goes Co-Op With Youngblood

In between Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and Wolfenstein 3, Machine Games decided to take a break from chronicling the rather ambitious and over-the-top story of B.J. Blazcowicz. The newest entry in the series is actually a breakaway from the main plot starring B.J., and is instead a sub-story based around his two twin daughters, which means that it opens up a huge opportunity to explore some awesome new gameplay possibilities, such as two-player cooperative gameplay. With that being said, yes, Wolfenstein: Youngblood has two-player cooperative gameplay.

The trailer isn't very long but it aired during Bethesda's E3 press conference to generate enough intrigue within its minute long runtime.

The video starts with a young girl in some sort of warehouse that seems to double as a training facility. She's on her hands and knees while a Walkman lies on the ground nearby.

B.J., then begins to provide narration, telling his two daughters to listen up, as he's been fighting all his life for the freedom his world doesn't quite have yet. Since the 2009 Wolfenstein reboot, the game's world has been depicted in an alternate way compared to the rest of the series. Hitler won, the Nazis now rule the world, and America had fallen.

During Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, it was revealed that the Nazis had fully taken over and begun occupying America. B.J. worked with some local freedom fighters to begin an attack against the Nazis, killing many of their commanders and blowing up their factories across the United States. The game ended with the resistant fighters taking over a broadcast station and telling Americans to rise up and fight back against the Nazi occupiers.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood takes place nearly 20 years later in the 1980s, where the twins that B.J., had with Anya have grown up and decided to take the fight to the enemy in Paris, France, which is also occupied by the Nazis.

So, why are the twins in Paris? Well, because their dad, B.J., has gone missing in there.

As stated in the trailer, the fight against the Nazis never ends. We then see Jessie and Sophia training to fight back. One of them is training as a boxer while the other is gaining proficiency with a sniper rifle. B.J. notes that the Nazis will throw everything they have at the twins, but in order to survive they'll have to embrace the suffering.

Meanwhile we get a look at what a 1980s Paris looks like under Nazi rule. There's a lot of contrasting color tones in the trailer as well, with the imagery of Paris being emblazoned with fiery displays of red, while the training locations for Jess and Soph are blanketed in blue lights.

We then see the two of them donning the power armor from Wolfenstein 2, telling each other that it's do or die, just like B.J. taught them.

The trailer then ends with the Wolfenstein: Youngblood logo and the promise of a 2019 release for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. What's interesting is that GameStop seemed to have a listing for the Nintendo Switch, but it was quickly removed, as reported by Nintendo Life. So, maybe further down the line we'll see a Switch version of the game? One can hope.
